The first day for hot lunch will be Tuesday, September 24th.
Welcome back to another TERM of school lunches!
Nelson PAC works with FoodieKIDS and To Live For for our weekly hot lunch offerings, and we will be returning to offering hot lunch twice per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition to these regular offerings, look for a special hot lunch day on alternate Fridays. Orders will continue to be placed through the MunchaLunch ordering platform. If you are new to MunchaLunch, follow the instructions below to create a new account for your family.
About the Combos: To make hot lunch a little more accessible, six of the "always available" items from FoodieKIDS are offered (optionally) as a combo. When you choose the Combo option (for example, the Veggie Dog Combo), you will also select the Veggie Cup Combo to go with it. You will notice that this side item is listed as $0 because it is included in the price for the main combo. If this is confusing, check out a more detailed explanation below.
* The FoodieKIDS menu is 100% nut-free but is not produced in a nut-free facility
* There are gluten-free menu options but they are not produced in a gluten-free facility

Don't forget! To Live For has expanded their offerings to us this year! In addition to the nut-free banana loaf, the lemon loaf, and the English muffin breakfast sandwich, you will now be able to choose from several of their bakery favourites. All items on offer from To Live For are vegan.
On alternate Fridays we will be offering a one-off special hot lunch day from a variety of vendors:
- Friday, Oct 4th: Uncle Fatih's Pizza
- Friday, Oct 18: Minato Sushi
- Friday, Nov 1st: Sal Y Limon
- Friday, Nov 15th: White Spot (Must be ordered 2 weeks in advance!)

ORDERING DETAILS:
- The first hot lunch day of the final term will be Tuesday, September 24th.
- Orders are due in by Wednesday at 11:59pm the week before** your order. This is also the deadline for editing or cancelling orders.
- For example, if you are ordering hot lunch for September 24th or 26th, your order must be completed with payment Wednesday, September 18th at 11:59pm and cannot be changed/cancelled/refunded after that date.
- **Exception: The order deadline for White Spot Day is two weeks before, as White Spot requires 2 weeks notice. Please note this in your calendar or subscribe to the PAC calendar so you don't miss this deadline!
- Last minute changes or cancellations/refunds cannot be accommodated; in this case, please consider any missed lunches a donation. Extra meals are provided to kids who may have forgotten or dropped their lunches; or else are delivered to Kettle Friendship Society at the end of the lunch period.
- After you place an order you will receive a confirmation email and receipt.
- If you create an order and do not complete it with payment, it will be automatically cancelled after 24 hours. This is an automated process and the Hot Lunch Coordinator cannot prevent this from occurring. Please remember to pay for your order within 24 hours of placing it. If your order is cancelled you will receive an automated email.
- Food will be delivered to the school for lunchtime and distributed by a team of volunteers. (Want to help with that?)
- Please pack appropriate cutlery depending on what you’ve ordered for your child. HOT LUNCH DOES NOT COME WITH CUTLERY.
- If your child is absent on a hot lunch day their lunch will be redistributed unless we hear otherwise from you. If you wish to arrange pickup at the office at lunch time, or you wish for the lunch to go home with a sibling, please contact us by 10am so we can communicate to the team of volunteers distributing that day. Unclaimed food will not go to waste! It will be redistributed to hungry kids or else donated to the Kettle Friendship Society.
- If you need assistance with ordering please contact us at [email protected]
VOLUNTEER WITH US!
We are always in need of volunteers! If you are available to deliver hot lunches to classrooms on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some Fridays from 11:45-12:25pm click here.
This is only a 40min commitment but is vitally important to the success of the hot lunch program. Please consider supporting the program in this simple way.
For those who like all the details…
Last year we went through the ordering process to see for ourselves how it works. Here are a few tips we put together for you:
PLACING AN ORDER
It is most convenient for you (and us) if you order all your hot lunches at once for the semester. If this isn’t practical for your household:
It is most convenient for you (and us) if you order all your hot lunches at once for the semester. If this isn’t practical for your household:
- Go ahead and choose your meals each week, if you’d like (just always consider the Wednesday night deadline!). Maybe make it part of your Sunday evening routine?
- After you’ve selected the options for the week(s) you’d like, you can “Jump to last Menu” to move along to the payment page.
- You will always be able to log back in and order items for the other weeks that you skipped (again, as long as it’s no later than the deadline for that week).

CHANGING/CANCELLING AN ORDER
Imagine this: The window is still open to order for next week, but your kid has suddenly decided they love animals SO much they will only be vegan from now on! Unfortunately you pre-ordered them all the beef dishes for the next three months. No worries! MunchaLunch has got your back (and the cows’!).

- Simply login to see your list of orders. Click the “edit” button beside the order you'd like to change. You can then re-do your order for that day. Everything you ordered before will appear “in your cart”. Simply edit what’s in your cart to make changes, or remove everything to cancel an order for that day.
- Don’t forget to “Jump to last Menu” and complete the order process to save your changes.
- If you already paid you will see a credit to your account, which will go towards your new order.
- You will receive an email confirmation for all changes you make to your orders.
Hot Lunch FAQ
- What happens if my kid is sick on a hot lunch day?
- If your kid isn't at school to receive their hot lunch, one of three things will happen to their ordered lunch:
- If you would prefer to swing by the school at lunch time to pick up your order, or if you want to send it home with a sibling, please let us know by email no later than 10am and we will set it aside for you in the office. Lunches are usually available to be picked up by 12:30.
- Unclaimed lunches are redistributed to other hungry kids - sometimes they've forgotten to pack a lunch, they thought they were getting hot lunch but weren’t on the list, or maybe their lunch fell on the floor... you'd be surprised how often this happens!
- Once all the hungry kids are fed, remaining lunches are donated to the Kettle Friendship Society.
- If your kid isn't at school to receive their hot lunch, one of three things will happen to their ordered lunch:
- Can I cancel my kids' hot lunch order when I know they're going to miss it?
- The deadline for changing or cancelling your hot lunch order is Wednesday the week before your order date. So, if you’re in this window, yes! Just log into MunchaLunch and edit your order. If this deadline has passed, unfortunately no, we cannot accommodate last minute cancellations.
- What about field trip days?
- Hopefully you get enough advanced warning about an upcoming field trip that you have time to cancel your order for that day. If you don’t, or if you forgot, don’t worry - it’s very, very likely that others in your kids’ class are in the same boat! The distribution volunteers will store the class’ lunches in the fridge until the end of the day. But let’s all just take a moment and recognize that there’s not unlimited fridge space at the school, so if you can, please remember to cancel your order on a field trip day!
- How do I change or cancel my hot kid's lunch order?
- We have a troubleshooting section above this FAQ complete with screen captures to help you along with this and other processes.
- How can I help make the hot lunch program more accessible to all Nelson families?
- Thank you for your support! There is a hot lunch donation item on the hot lunch menu! Just select that item in $5 or $10 increments and add it to your own hot lunch order. These donations help the PAC cover the cost of hot lunch subsidies.
- I want to participate in the hot lunch program but it's too expensive. What are my options?
- The PAC wants to ensure that the hot lunch program is available to all interested Lord Nelson families. For information about and application for our Hot Lunch Subsidy Policy & Procedure click here, or reach out to the PAC by email, or if you would prefer you can contact the school admin or your classroom teacher to get started.
- I need help with MunchaLunch - who do I reach out to?
- The PAC Hot Lunch Coordinator is more than happy to help out. You can email [email protected] with your questions. Please note that the MunchaLunch Support Team cannot answer your questions.
